Dives
The dives page displays a list of dive sites in our database. Additional information like tags and region is displayed. This documentation will give you instructions on how to use the Dives page to find a previous dive or to pick a future one.
The Dives page.
Basic Information
The dives page provides basic information for each dive. This includes its name, tags, and region. Click a dive site name to view a live conditions report.
An example row.
The dive site name is going to be the commonly recognized (formal) name for a dive site. For example, Seattle divers may know Seacrest Park Cove 1 just as "Cove 1" without elaboration. Our database typically spells out the full name, while still adhering to standard usage in the dive community.
Tags contain information about a dive site. They are meant to help you filter dive sites by important attributes, like Shore vs. Boat and the availability of nearby public bathrooms and showers ("Facilities"). A complete listing of tags is provided in the Tags section of this page.
Tags
Tags can be selected via the "Tags" dropdown menu at the top of the page.
- Click within the box and select a tag to filter the dive list. You can select multiple tags too. The list will be filtered by both tags simultaneously, for example if you want a Shore dive in an MPA.
- If you can't find a tag, you can also try searching the list of tags by typing in the first few characters of the tag you were expecting.
Shore, Boat, Shore/Boat
These tags indicate whether a dive is accessed via the shore, boat, or if either is possible (although this may mean the shore approach is quite a walk...)
MPA
MPA stands for Marine Protected Area. On our website, this technically includes Convervation Areas as well as true Marine Preserves as established by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife
Strong currents
Strong currents warns of potentially strong currents, such as at Deception Pass.
Please note: currents are constantly changing. Your safety is your responsibility. Sites with typically weak currents can experience strong currents and vice versa. Always plan and assess conditions at your dive site carefully, or dive with a trusted professional.
Wreck
This indicates whether a wreck is present at the site. Only some of these are historic; others are more recently sunk as artificial reef.
Facilities
This means public bathrooms are present and usually open. Hours may vary. Most dive site bathrooms have showers, but not all. Double check with the relevant park website.
Historic
This tag indicates that the site is of historic interest. This is typically the wreckage of historic structures, mainly around Alki.
Region
You can also filter by region using the region dropdown:
Currently only a single region can be selected at a time.
The regions are defined as follows:
- Central Sound: Mukilteo to Burien (including all of Seattle) plus some dives near Bainbridge
- South Sound: Des Moines to Olympia and the Southern Kitsap Peninsula's waters
- Hood Canal: All along the Hood Canal
- San Juans: San Juan Islands and Whatcom County
- North Sound: South from Anacortes, including Whidbey Island and Port Townsend
