Sound Dives is a website for SCUBA divers in the Puget Sound (Salish Sea) region. Its goal is to be a helpful resource for divers of all interests and abilities.

This page will help users understand the features offered and how to use them. We will start by going over the basic pages and functions included in SoundDives.

Site Overview

These are the main pages of SoundDives:

For each dive site in our database, there is also a single page with dive site information:

You will likely begin on the Home Page, which links to the other pages.

Finding a Dive

To access our live data on dive site conditions, the first thing users must do is find their dive of interest. There are two main ways to do this: the Dives page and the Map page.

Dives Page

Dives Page The Dives page.

To find a dive you are interested in, just scroll down the page and click its name.

If you don't see it right away, you can use the search feature.

  • Click to select the search bar ("Search names") at the top and begin typing the first part of the dive's name.
  • For example, "Seacrest" will turn up the popular dives at Seacrest Park Cove 1 and Cove 2.
  • When you have found your dive, click its name to see a live conditions report.

Map Page

Map Page The Map page.

If you don't quite remember the name of the dive site but you remember the location, you can also choose to search for it geographically on the Map page.

  • Click and scroll to move and zoom, then select your dive.
  • An information bubble will pop up. Click on the dive name to see live conditions there.

Dive Conditions

Once you have found your dive, a Report page is shown. Here is a quick primer on the information provided on a dive Report page.

Report Page

The page is divided into three sections:

  • Title/information (blue background)
  • Map (yellow background)
  • Graphs (below the information section)

Additional information on the Conditions page is available on its dedicated page.

In brief:

The information section provides a basic description and some references to popular local dive guide books, if available.

The map section shows where the dive is in the Puget Sound.

The graph section contains the following graphs:

  • Tide
  • Current
  • Visibility (predicted)
  • Weather (incl temperature, windspeed, and precipitation likelihood)

These conditions can be used to help you choose a dive site and plan a safe and effective dive.
